This peri peri popcorn recipe is delicious, spicy and super addictive. This recipe is easy to make, and is a perfect snack to serve at movie nights, game nights and holiday parties.

Popcorn is one of the most enjoyed snack at my home. To make it taste even more delicious I like to add sweet and savory seasoning to it. I love to serve easy, quick yet delicious recipes at my holiday parties & this recipe just fits the bill.

Ingredients & Process of making Peri Peri Popcorn

I have used Orville Redenbacher’s Mini Butter Popcorn Bags for my convenience. Followed the instructions at the back of the bag and popped them in a microwave. While the popcorns were still hot, I lightly coated them in oil spray. Added store bought peri peri masala and mixed around so the popcorns were coated with the masala.

Substitutes & Variation:

You can sub avocado oil spray for vegetable, coconut oil spray. Basically you can use any neutral testing oil spray.

I have used stored bought peri peri spice mix, alternatively you can make your own spice mix at home. I have shared the recipe in the recipe card below. You can even sub peri peri masala for pav bhaji masala, magic masala or tandoori masala. Feel free to adjust the amount of spice level to your liking.

How To Make Masala Popcorn on stove top:

You can even use stove top method for making popcorn. Just pour oil into a large heavy bottom pot. The oil should cover the bottom of the pot. Warm over medium high heat. Add corn kernels, making sure they are in an even layer. Cover the pot and soon the popcorn will begin popping, and all at once. Gently shake the pot back & forth over the burner, leaving a slight opening for steam to escape. Once the popping settles down, remove the pan from heat, remove lid, and immediately pour popcorn into a big bowl. Lightly coat them with oil spray sprinkle with spice mix and serve!

How To Store Masala Popcorn?

Store any leftover popcorn in air tight container at room temperature. These remain crunchy up to 1 week. But trust me, they are so addictive….. that, you will likely finish them right away. The more airtight, the better. You can even cover the top of the popcorn with a piece of cling wrap before placing the airtight lid on, this will lock in some moisture.

This spicy popcorn is one of the ultimate crowd pleasing snack that you have to try this festive season.

Peri Peri Popcorn

  • Prep time: 4 minutes
  • Cook time: 1 minute 30 seconds
  • Total time: 5 minutes 30 seconds
  • Serves: 6 People

Quick & easy peri peri masala popcorn that just takes 5 minutes, microwave and only 3 ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 85 gms Popcorn , 2 Mini Bags of Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn
  • 4 tsp Peri Peri Masala, or Pav Bhaji Masala
  • Avocado Oil Spray

Peri Peri Spice Mix

  • 2 tbsp Paprika Powder
  • 2 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tbsp Dried Oreganeo
  • 2 tsp Ground Coriander
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Powder
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Ginger Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt , Optional
  • 1/2 tsp Granulated White Sugar , Optional

Method

  • 1)

Pop the popcorns according to the package instructions. I used 2 mini bags of Orville Redenbacher’s Popcorn. Each bag takes around 1:30 minutes to pop, the popping time may vary based on the model of the microwave. Make sure you read & follow  the instructions on the packet.

  • 2)

Once the popcorns are popped, open the bag carefully away from your face and transfer them to a big bowl.

  • 3)

While the popcorns are still hot lightly spray them with any neutral oil spray. I used avocado oil spray. This step will help the masala to adhere to the popcorns.

  • 4)

Sprinkle 4 tsp of peri peri masala over the popcorns and mix it around so all the spices are coated on the popcorn and serve.

Notes

  • Make sure your seasoning is fine in texture. A fine textured seasoning adheres well to the popcorns.
  • Lightly coat the popcorns with oil spray. Don’t coat them generously with oil or they will turn soggy in texture.
  • Microwave popcorns tend to have salt so make sure you do not add any.
  • Feel free to adjust the spice level according to your liking.
  • You can substitute peri peri masala with magic masala, pav bhaji masala or tandoori masala.
