Popcorn is one of the most enjoyed snack at my home. To make it taste even more delicious I like to add sweet and savory seasoning to it. I love to serve easy, quick yet delicious recipes at my holiday parties & this recipe just fits the bill.
Ingredients & Process of making Peri Peri Popcorn
I have used Orville Redenbacher’s Mini Butter Popcorn Bags for my convenience. Followed the instructions at the back of the bag and popped them in a microwave. While the popcorns were still hot, I lightly coated them in oil spray. Added store bought peri peri masala and mixed around so the popcorns were coated with the masala.
Substitutes & Variation:
You can sub avocado oil spray for vegetable, coconut oil spray. Basically you can use any neutral testing oil spray.
I have used stored bought peri peri spice mix, alternatively you can make your own spice mix at home. I have shared the recipe in the recipe card below. You can even sub peri peri masala for pav bhaji masala, magic masala or tandoori masala. Feel free to adjust the amount of spice level to your liking.
How To Make Masala Popcorn on stove top:
You can even use stove top method for making popcorn. Just pour oil into a large heavy bottom pot. The oil should cover the bottom of the pot. Warm over medium high heat. Add corn kernels, making sure they are in an even layer. Cover the pot and soon the popcorn will begin popping, and all at once. Gently shake the pot back & forth over the burner, leaving a slight opening for steam to escape. Once the popping settles down, remove the pan from heat, remove lid, and immediately pour popcorn into a big bowl. Lightly coat them with oil spray sprinkle with spice mix and serve!
How To Store Masala Popcorn?
Store any leftover popcorn in air tight container at room temperature. These remain crunchy up to 1 week. But trust me, they are so addictive….. that, you will likely finish them right away. The more airtight, the better. You can even cover the top of the popcorn with a piece of cling wrap before placing the airtight lid on, this will lock in some moisture.
This spicy popcorn is one of the ultimate crowd pleasing snack that you have to try this festive season.
