Ingredients to make Honey Chili Potatoes Recipe:
Frozen Fries: I have used readymade frozen fries for the convenience. I love the fries from Ore-Ida .I generally buy Golden Crinkle Cut ones. Alternatively, you can pick any variety of fries you want. Make sure to read and follow the package instructions to cook the fries.
Ginger Garlic : I use finely chopped ginger and garlic in this recipe. The smaller the pieces are, the faster it releases aroma during cooking. Also, smaller pieces blend in well into the sauce, you won’t even notice them while eating.
Ingredients to make sauce:
Ketchup: Addition of ketchup adds so much flavor to this recipe. It gives sweet, sour and umami flavor to this recipe. I used Heinz Ketchup for this recipe.
Soy Sauce: Soy sauce provides salty, sweet and umami flavor to this recipe. I use Kikkoman traditionally brewed soy sauce in Asian recipes. Alternatively you can use light soy sauce, tamari or coconut aminos.
Vinegar: I have used rice vinegar in this recipe. It gives a distinct mild sweet & sour flavor to this recipe. Alternatively, you can use apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, mirin in 1:1ratio.
Honey: Honey adds sweetness and balances out sour and spicy flavors. I use plain raw honey in this recipe. Make sure you use non flavored honey.
Sriracha Sauce: I like to add sriracha sauce as its moderately spicy, tangy, sweet and has a garlicky kick to it. Alternatively, you can use Chili sauce or chili garlic sauce.
Sesame Oil: I like to add toasted sesame oil in Asian cooking as toasting makes nuttiness more intense. Alternatively, you can use neutral flavored oil like grapeseed, canola, sunflower or vegetable oil.
Cornstarch: Cornstrach helps thicken the sauce and helps it adhere to the fries. Corn flour is a yellow powder made from finely ground, dried corn, while cornstarch is a fine white powder made from starchy part of corn kernel. Both go by different names depending on where you live. If in India it goes by the name corn flour.
Garnish:
Sesame Seeds: I have used a mix of black and white toasted sesame seeds in this recipe. These add a mild, sweet, nutty and crunchy taste to this recipe. Make sure you toast the seeds as it brings out a strong flavor and aroma and make the seeds evident in the dish.
Spring Onion Greens: Spring Onions greens have a strong intense flavor and makes a great garnish for this recipe. Alternatively, you can use scallion.
